New In Both Sides Now and Who’s Out There, Anyway?

We have some new commentary in Both Sides Now and the opening of a (yes, yet another) new section of Human Beams, which I think will be pretty fun, with your help. I'll tell about it towards the end of this post.  First the articles -

Kuwait: The Sky’s Policy

Amira Al Hussaini, of Global Voices Online, translates from Arabic an interesting and somewhat philosophical post by Kuwaiti blogger Ma6goog that deals with good and evil, childhood stories, beliefs in black and white, the Quran and more. Well worth reading (and, as an aside, isn't Arabic a lovely written language? It seems one learns art from the cradle, simply by learning to write).

Dave E. writes a Letter to the U.S. Congress, - he's not just concerned about the last 6 years of horrendous policy, but at least the last 20. Using historical, international examples, he attempts to highlight what has worked in the past... and what has never worked, no matter who has tried it. An excellent, informative read and I commend the effort, but I'm fairly certain that most elected official's concepts of past, present and future are only measured in distances between elections.

Could It Be Africa’s Greatest Danger?

The climate conference in Bali just ended, on a note of hope for some since the U.S. decided to make at least a few small commitments. Omar Basawad's (of  Basawad’s Safari Notes ) article is not about the international conference, though, having been written prior to that. He discusses Africa's role as the continent that will likely suffer first and most from climate change - mainly due to the industrial and other activities of the West. As he says, one prescription is  "what Africa really and truly needs is: leaders with vision and integrity." Sigh, the wish of citizenry everywhere - imagine the things that could be accomplished, worldwide, should such leaders ever get elected.

Okay, about the new thing - Who's Out There? I want to know; don't you? (Completely subjective) blog reviews, news and resources is what that's all about. The resources bit would encompass highlighting and reviewing the blogs and/or sites whose work we've used. Or something like that. Where you come in is - as everyone has different tastes, interests and so on, dropping blog suggestions into comments there, or writing your own reviews of blogs and other sites which we would then put up under your preferred name and such - this would allow us to have the most variety and the widest pool of knowledge. The wisdom of crowds and all that. This post explains a little more about it.

By the way, the category/topic list is not complete - arin worked really hard setting them up so that "this is included, but not that, and this can go here, but this only shows up there", which was  real pain for her, but I've been a little less diligent in filling in all the areas. It'll get there though! I look forward to hearing everyone's suggestions.
