A Lifetime in LeavesMay 01, 2006
They are just now appearing, smudges on the edge of branches, formless shadows glimpsed from a distance. In but days, each silken tick begins to show - no longer a hinted occurrence, the sense of an approaching spring to be delivered with the eruption of these borning leaves, but the trueness of each, a new being. How rapid is the cycle of their lives. They stretch to the light, bright spring days that birthed them, throughout this summer’s glory, at the height of their power. Liquid sun flows through their veins, nurtures their soul. They live all for one whole; selfless, supple caretakers. Until, the sun milked out, their usefulness ends. It is then, relieved of their lifelong duty, they reveal their true souls, shining with such splendor and magnificence the world holds its breath in wonder. Such is the nature of aging, be it in leaves, be it in people. To erupt into our true skins and show the world our most vibrant designs for the final show, this powerful glory by which to be remembered.
